My art table is always a mess and I'm not very organized, but I do keep an antique saucer where I can easily find it. It's full of words and phrases that I have torn from salvaged books. The right words just seem to appear in there when I need them. 'happy' is this collage, despite all the 'imperfections' of the wood and paper fragments.

Materials: 

This collage features textiles and vintage papers. The substrate, a shingle from my grandfather's barn in northern New Brunswick, is very rough on this piece, but it adds to its charm.

In keeping with the salvaged wood substrate, the sides are unfinished, with bits of paper and paint drips visible. This piece has a twine hanger that can be folded back if you wish to prop it on a mini easel, bookshelf, mantle, or table. Signed on the back, this piece is finished with a matte varnish to ensure protection against fading, discolouration, and moisture. Avoid placing all artwork in direct sunlight.
